DEGREES AND TRAINING
Generally three or more years of undergraduate education plus four years of dental school is required to become a general dentist. Additional post-graduate training is required to become a dental specialist. A doctor of dental medicine (DMD) and a doctor of dental surgery (DDS) are the degrees that can be attained upon graduation from dental school. The degree awarded is determined by the university where education is received. The education curriculum for either of these degrees is the same and is established by the American Dental Association’s Commission of Dental Accreditation
